Professor Seth Burkert grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania in the small town of Fleetwood. He then went on to major in chemistry at Saint Francis University, PA where he was also actively involved in the chemistry club and conducted research on the enzymatic activity of metalloenzymes. After completing his undergraduate degree, he began his PhD studies at the University of Pittsburgh studying physical and materials chemistry specifically in the application of carbon nanomaterials for drug delivery, electrocatalysis, and chemical sensing. After completing his PhD in 2019 he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at both Lafayette College in Easton, PA and Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. Professor Burkert is new to Messiah University as of Fall 2022 and looks forward to conducting research into the synthesis of metal coordinated carbon nanomaterials and exploring their applications in biological systems. Outside of the classroom, Professor Burkert enjoys golfing, hiking, and kayaking.
