Profile & selected publications

Dr. Hellgren grew up in Sweden where he earned an M.S. degree in applied physics and electrical engineering at Linköping University in 1996. During his masters studies he also spent one year as a technical student at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) in Switzerland. After completing a Ph.D. in thin film physics at Linköping University in 1999, he was employed for two years as a post-doctoral research scientist at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Materials Research Laboratory. Prior to coming to Messiah College, he was employed by Intel Corporation in Portland, Oregon as a senior process engineer developing new intra-layer dielectrics and etch-stop thin films for future generation micro-processor manufacturing. Niklas and his wife Alison have two children. They enjoy travel, the outdoors, hiking, skiing, and golf.
