My experiences working as a research student helped introduce me to laboratory work and helped me to build confidence in the laboratory setting. My time in the lab definitely helped me make the decision to pursue further education as a Medical Laboratory Scientist so that I may apply my laboratory skills and help people as a healthcare provider.
Throughout my life, God has led me directions in which I was not sure why I was being called there. When I became an EMT, I was introduced to the healthcare field and I absolutely loved it. At school, I really enjoyed working in the laboratory and it seemed very obvious that God was pushing me to pursue my MLS degree and apply my laboratory skills with my passion for healthcare.
Always be looking at the "big picture" of what you are studying. Be sure to determine why what you are learning matters and be able to apply course material to real life situations. Pursue every opportunity where you can apply your knowledge to real life situations and helping others.
