Alexis Jackson earned her B.A. in English from Messiah College in 2013. Since graduating, she has since earned an MFA in Poetry at Columbia University and currently serves as a Lecturer in the English Department at the University of San Diego. Additionally, Jackson is currently in the process of editing her first manuscript that challenges the ways we often think of and categorize “holy text” and the words of Black women.
Jackson remembers her time at Messiah fondly: “Thanks to the Messiah College English Department, I was fully prepared for my writing and scholarly career—topsy-turvy as the journey has been… I attribute much of [my] versatility to the English Department's Requirements and the encouragement from all of the professors to pursue my creative calling regardless of my vocation… While much may be uncertain in the job market, I rarely have to worry about finding a position where the skills I've learned are not necessary...”
