Creating a captivating, animated video of George Washington teaching a lesson? Perfecting the lighting for a video sent to parents by school administrators? The day-to-day job variety keeps film and media arts alum Christian Pavlovich ’18 on his toes, sometimes even virtually.
As part of the media team at Commonwealth Charter Academy, a K-12 cyber charter school, Pavlovich creates promotional, front facing media, while also assisting teachers in producing videos for more engaging learning environments. Every day allows for new projects and possibilities. One day, he may receive a message from the school’s administration to set up studio lighting and film a video to be sent out to parents. Another day, a teacher will ask him to create a video for her to send to a class to make learning for her students more dynamic.
Because Commonwealth Charter Academy is a cyber school, administration and teachers rely heavily on successful media to communicate clearly to parents and students and to keep student engaged in learning. That means Pavlovich’s role is integral in helping the school reach its communication potential.
But he’s always looking for new, innovative projects. His latest? Experimenting with a way to create a dome that gives off an illusion of a 3D environment He wants to finalize this project to provide students with a realistic background for their own video projects. These innovations challenge Pavlovich and allow him to increase his knowledge of hands-on digital work.
To execute with precision the type of media in the style teachers request, Pavlovich uses the skills he gained during his time at Messiah. Looking back fondly, he notes that his education prepared him for the creativity and team-related aspects of his job today. Through taking a documentary course, he gained perspective on how to do justice to individuals’ stories. He puts this into practice as he takes specific requests from teachers and administration and turns it into dynamic, virtual creations.
Through his job at the Commonwealth Charter Academy, Pavlovich combines his passion for film and media with his skills that make learning more dynamic for the students. He truly feels like he can make a difference while enjoying each day of his multifaceted job.
