Kathryn Kaslow Trump graduated from Messiah University in 2016 with her degree in History with concentrations in Public History and American History. She is currently working as a Museum Specialist at the Westerville History Museum near Columbus Ohio. Kathryn says her job involves a bit of everything in history, from tours, exhibit development, research assistance and more. She said the hard skills like research, writing, and theoretical skills she learned in the classroom and hard skills from internships has allowed her to find compelling ways to communicate Westerville’s history to local audiences. She links her work in the methods and historiography courses offered at Messiah to her ability to thrive in graduate school. Her work is driven by her belief that everyone has inherent value and dignity, and their stories are important to remember. She also says connecting personal histories has the unique ability to empathy and compassion within in each other. It allows people to learn from individuals with different backgrounds and beliefs than their own and engage in those material worlds to better connect to the present world. She says that history, if done thoughtfully can be an extremely profound, meaningful form of truth-telling that promotes healing and justice. Kathryn said that Messiah University planted that seeds that helped her grow more holistically into her faith, and become more open minded, empathetic, and humble.
