“My faith motivates me to continue teaching on the really tough days, because I know God has placed me right where he needs me. I am quick to forgive my students and to extend them grace, because I know that God has forgiven me. Each day the “slate” is wiped clean, and my students can begin anew. I try my best to be a role model, and to show my students the love of Christ.”
Amanda worked for two years at Central Dauphin East High School and then transitioned to Central York in 2015. She still works at Central York as a Family Consumer Science teacher today.
Amanda shared, "The Family and Consumer Science program prepared me well for both my career, as well as the coursework required in Graduate school. The rigorous education provided at Messiah was very beneficial, and the transition to my teaching career was smooth." She said that the Education courses, such as TESOL and Special Education, were very helpful to her. She also noted that the developmental courses such as Child Development, Adolescent Development, and Adult Development were specifically helpful to her career.
Amanda runs her school's Christian Club which enables her to discuss her faith during meetings. Additionally, Amanda is involved with the Young Life program at her school, which consists of weekly bible studies before school. Amanda emphasized that she loves being able to share her faith with her students.
Amanda encourages current students to get involved and learn as much as possible! She ended by saying, "Messiah will prepare and equip you for life after graduation, but make the most of your experience there."
