Additionally, Bryan encourages conference attendance to further network in the professional community. Finally, he encourages students by saying, “Understand that you have so many skills that employers want to see that can overshadow short comings you might have in regards to knowledge or technical skills.”

Bryan’s Career Journey

Bryan graduated from the Family and Consumer Sciences Education program in May of 2013 and quickly landed his job at Souderton Area School District just two and a half weeks after graduating from Messiah! With a personal philosophy of educating the whole child, Bryan fit right in at Souderton. Bryan says, “With an HDFS background, I am better prepared to meet students where they are to help them succeed both in my class, as well as in their numerous other endeavors.”

Life As An Educator

Like most educators, Bryan agrees that there is “no normal day.” His tasks include developing, teaching and evaluating lessons; working one-on-one with students grades 9-12; attending department and faculty meetings; and perform hallway, bus platform and chaperone duties. Bryan works one-on-one with special education students, English language learner students and general education students. Bryan also is a co-advisor for fall plays and the ninth grade student government. Additionally, Bryan along with three fellow teachers are working with their Inner Club Council to put together Souderton’s first Mini Thon.
