Annual Friends Dinner

22nd Annual Dinner & Public Program:
November 8, 2024    6:00-8:30 p.m.

Registration has closed for this year's Annual Dinner & Public Program.
The evening will consist of a served dinner by Two Bridges Catering and public program featuring a moderated plenary panel of librarians exploring what it means to be literate today, the future of literacy, and the ways that libraries can come together with our communities to develop literacy skills for people of all ages.

Sarah Fischer

Messiah University Associate Professor of Literacy Education

Sarah Fischer serves as Associate Professor of Literacy Education in Messiah's Department of Education. Prior to coming to Messiah, she was an elementary teacher in southwestern Pennsylvania and completed her doctoral studies at Penn State University. Her research focuses on the relationship between reading experience and theories of place in childhood.

Executive Director of the Dauphin County Library System

Ryan McCrory stepped into the role of Executive Director of the Dauphin County Library System in May 2024.  He holds an MLIS degree from Clarion University and has over 25 years of library experience.  McCrory previously served as the Executive Director of the Lititz Public Library and held key posts for the Boone Area Library and Seattle Public Library.

Janet Vogel is the Director of Murray Library at Messiah University. Vogel has worked in public and academic libraries since 2004 and holds an M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois and an M.A. in Public History from Loyola University Chicago. She is also a 2003 graduate of Messiah with a B.A. in History. She enjoys reading, being outside, and traveling with her husband, who is also a Messiah alum.

Library Department Coordinator at Mechanicsburg School District & librarian at two of the District’s elementary buildings

Sarah George is an elementary librarian and the Library Department Coordinator of Mechanicsburg Area School District.  She earned a Master of Education in Reading Education from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University and a Master of Science in Library Science from Clarion University.  George began her teaching career in 2008 as a classroom teacher at The Kindergarten Academy in Mechanicsburg and transitioned to a school librarian position in 2016.  Since then, she has worked at a variety of elementary buildings in the district and currently teaches 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students at two of the buildings.  She enjoys reading, embroidery, photography, and time with her husband and two children.

We are pleased to announce that we are holding a Virtual Info Session for the upcoming Civil Rights
Bus Trip.  The info session will take place on Thursday, November 21st, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. via Zoom
