Social Security is based on a simple concept: While you work, you pay taxes into the Social Security system, and when you retire or become disabled, you, your spouse and your dependent children receive monthly benefits that are based on your reported earnings.


U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the government agency that oversees lawful immigration to the United States. Here you can find information about working in the USA if you are from another country.


The Department of Revenue is responsible for collecting Personal Income Tax and other taxes, including Sales and Use Tax, all corporate taxes, Inheritance Tax, Realty Transfer Tax, Motor and Alternative Fuel Taxes.  In addition, the department collects the Local Sales Tax for Allegheny and Philadelphia counties.


L&I administers benefits to unemployed individuals, oversees the administration of workers' compensation benefits to individuals with job related injuries, and provides vocational rehabilitation to individuals with disabilities. The Department prepares job seekers for the global workforce through employment and job training services for adult, youth, older workers, and dislocated workers. In addition, L&I enforces various laws and safety standards in the workplace and administers the Commonwealth's programs for community service by young Pennsylvanians.

This is the agency which manages the collection and distribution of local earned income taxes (EIT) and the Local Services Tax (LST) for our immediate area. The Cumberland County Tax Bureau serves as the Earned Income Tax Collector for all of Cumberland County, the West Shore School District in northern York County and the Shippensburg Area School District in eastern Franklin County.
