13. Common Learning Requirements

13.5 Capstone in the Major

Each undergraduate academic major delivers a senior capstone course. As described in Section 1 of the Community of Educators Handbook, “Capstone courses are designed for students to synthesize knowledge and skills between General Education and the major.”

Capstone Course Learning Objectives. By the completion of the course students will demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Articulate philosophical assumptions and ethical issues of one’s major discipline of study. (Ethics and Civic Responsibility)
  2. Reflect on connections between Christian faith and one’s field of study. (Christian Faith)
  3. Articulate awareness of options for employment in one’s field of study. (Self-Awareness)
  4. Connect and synthesize ideas/solutions, transforming them into new forms. (Critical and Creative Thinking)
